Aero is more GPU dependent too.

Thanks, I may give it a nod.

Right Gary, but the desktop where the phenomenon occurs has the better GPU too - as compared to the laptop. Really puzzling, but not really a problem. Only an academic challenge.

    Agreed

Hmm, how could that be with 8GB of RAM. My laptop has only 6GB of RAM and the phenomenon does not occur.
I thought that it was weird too.

There was a thread recently (here or on EightForums) where someone's machine was reserving over 8GB for hardware!

Nah, that's not the case. I check my Resource Monitor all the time.

What does it say when you are experiencing the problem?

Maybe VLC is interacting with something else that is running on your system.

Like most other people who have commented, I don't have the issue you describe when I use VLC (or MPC-HC).

Same thing, low RAM usage. I don't think it is a RAM problem.

    Head Scratcher

I assume that you have completely uninstalled VLC and reinstalled it?

Are you using the 32 bit or 64 bit version of VLC?
I have both (and they both run correctly).
I'm using the default settings on both.
