    MS Snipping Tool

    Hi,

Have been using that MS "Snipping Tool" that came with W7 on my PC quite often.
    Really a nice little add-on.

However, I cannot get the "Eraser" function to ever work.

I looked for an update of it to download, but can't find anyplace.
    Is there one ?

And, anyone know how to get the Eraser to function like it should ?
I think, but am not sure, that it did at one time.

    Thanks,
    Bob

The eraser will only erase things that you put in with the pen. It will not erase anything in the actual snip.

Just out of curiosity, how are you trying to use the eraser?

If you draw a line or use the hi-lighter then switch to the eraser you can erase what you've drawn or hi-lighted.

Maybe you have misunderstood how eraser in Snipping Tool works? It works exactly as planned, erasing anything you have added to your snip with Snipping Tools Pen or Highlighter functions.

It does not and should not erase anything from original snip. For instance, you cannot make a screenshot of you and a friend and then erase yourself from the snip with Eraser tool. It really is supposed to erase only markings made to snip with Pen or Highlighter tools.

EDIT: I was late, I see you already got answer.

Kari, I know it's been years since this was posted, but what tool did you use to make your pic above? Snipping Tool just isn't capable of that.

I use Screenpresso for all my screenshots. The free version is enough for most users, the paid one adds some features.

I tried the Win 7 snipping tool when I first got Win 7 and didn't like it as well as the one I had been using in XP so I just continued to use my old one until I recently went from one monitor to three monitors and found out my old tool wouldn't work over the three, just the primary monitor. Since I needed to do a snip right then, I fired up Win 7's tool and, not only did it work well over the three monitors, it (or my perception of it) had improved since the first few times I used it. I've been using it ever since and have been quite happy with it.

As others have already stated, the eraser tool only works on changes you have made on the capture, such as lines or highlights. To erase or crop parts of the original capture itself, you would have to do so in a photo/graphics editing program, such as M$ Paint.
