laptop stops operating often after windows 7 install

I installed windows 7 after it came out for the the very first time. No problems occured and i was very satisfied (all the issues vista had were solved). I went on and installed the next windows 7 version when the older version was expired in summer.

After the installation my computer stops working for some minutes and the ctrl+alt+del (windows task manager) does not respond too. It comes to normal operation again after some minutes with all the software running normal too.

Any ideas? I cant understand how the same operation software (windows 7) can cause such a problem.

    It is a Vaio VGN-NR11M/S
CPU: Intel Pentium Dual Core Processor T2310 1.46 GHz
    Μemory: 1.5 GB
    HDD: 160 GB
    Graphics: Mobile Intel GMA X3100
    OS: windows 7 ultimate
    system type: 32 bit
    antivirus: ESET NOD 32

did you do a clean install or upgrade?

A clean install (dont remember 100%)

then we need to know what you are doing when the computer freezes?

just using the pc normally. It freezes when watching a movie, listening to music, browsing the net, playing games,...,. I tried to operate the pc without a downloading software on (e.g. utorrent) but it stills freezes.

    thanks for the quick reply,

    theo

    Theo

    thanks for the info.

can you go into event viewer by typing event in search. go to the windows logs tab, expand it and go to the applications tab. You are looking for errors (the have red in the left column) and you are looking for the apps that you use when it freezes. It might say application error, or application hang.

Get us the event ID and source code for those.

When you resolve the problem can you take the specs you gave us in add them in the lower left corner of your post.

    thanks

    same

My girlfriend's laptop is also a sony vaio vgn-nr11m and also has this problem. It was running vista ok before (as well as vista can ever run) and after installing Windows 7 it freezes at random times for about 20 seconds before giving back control. Nothing seems to prompt the freezes and the laptop is inaccessible for that time. I'm guessing this is the same issue as yours TM.

I just went to the Sony support site and they have listed the models compatible with Windows 7. The NR series is not there - it is not compatible apparently. This is bs because it runs it fine and now I've upgraded the system to 2Gb Ram it should easily handle it. Seems Sony poorly designed these machines.
