Computer is stuck in Windows Resume Loader

Greetings: Re: Inspiron 546 by Dell. Windows 7 O/S upgraded from Vista. My domputer was operation very well until I purchased a long needed new keyboard which is of the multi-media type. I was getting acquainted with the key when I hit the key with the half-moon symbol on it and that's when all my trouble started. I cannot get passed the Window resume loader on my screen. My keyboard is dead as well as the mouse. I have read suggestions to clear the CMOS ann I udnerstand that that can be done by removing the battery, which I did. I tried re-install discs, both Vista and Windows 7 to no avail Further suggestions include trying a PS2 keyboard which I have, but I do not have a PS2 connection on the computer. I do have an PS2 to USB adapter and that doesn't do anything either. I am s-t-u-c-k !!

The thing about the BIOS is, most BIOS today have pins on the motherboard with jumpers to clean the CMOS. The Battery is mostly for the RTC (Real Time Clock) But they are still some motherboards out there that still use the battery. Just thought i would add this in, incase it didnt clear

I don't know, I didn't get any manual or anything with the board. all I know is that when I hit that key is when my problem started and is continuing.

I didn't think about that. Is there another battery somewhere? If I knew what the pins and jumpers looked like on my board. I might be able to clear the CMOS.

the Computer is a Dell Inspiron 546 and the only thing I see on the board is what looks like a reversed R with a U with a smaller US then numbers DRS780M02. One other thing. I have the unit open with the power on and I noticed a period flashing coming from the Ethernet port. I know the Ethernet light is usually green an that is "on". Just curious if that flashing is normal.
