    We could always try this
    Code:
    Diskpart
    List disk
    Select disk 0
    Select partition 1
    Inactive
    Exit
    Exit
       Note
Inactive command removes the active mark from the drive

    :ADDED:

       Note

    1st Exit - Exits Diskpart will get Leaving DiskPart . . .
2nd Exit - Closes the Command Prompt Window

Yes I gave marking Inactive D in case it turns out it is on the same HD so that it can't be disabled in laptop BIOS setup.

But sometimes the installer will still write the System boot files to the first partition of the first HD. You can try force deleting the partitionfrom my last post which will make it less likely.

This is the reason it's always preferable to have the OS HD in DISK0 position.

You can't mark it to disk 0 . Disk 0 just means its the first drive .

Can't you boot from the DVD by press F9 on the HP screen for the boot menu choose optical drive on the Press any key to boot from cd or DVD …. Hit the enter key let the grey bar go through . Then once you get to the Install Now window click on Repair your computer . Choose windows 7 click next on the System Recovery menu choose command prompt .

There is no problem at all. We will help you for as long as it takes. I was waiting to see that you do in fact have two HD's since you seemed sure you only have one.

Once you get to the Command Prompt as VistaKing just instructed, then Mark Partition D as Inactive - Windows 7 Forums. Or you can do it from Win7 now using Elevated Command Prompt

Then reboot into DVD or REpair CD to run Startup Repair - Run up to 3 Separate Times.

When Win7 starts, look in Disk Mgmt to see if it has moved the System flag to C.

If not, you'll need to disable D HD in BIOS setup to run the repairs, or use Diskpart to "Delete Partition Override" on D drive from the Command Prompt. Then run the Repairs again so the System flag can be written to C without interference from D partition.
