I tried that, too. I'm able to copy the files through the recovery options in what you had just linked to now, though, so I don't need it to register in the command prompt anymore. I'd still prefer to not do a clean reinstall if we can help it, or at least try another repair, but at least now I can have backups of what I need from the computer. I'll post again once I've saved what I need to.

Before you tried to do anything . Did you restart the PC a few times to unlock the Profiles ? Then going into the registry and touching the ProfileList registry key ?

Yes. Restarting was the first step after I noticed something was wrong. It was a couple hours later that I found out about checking the registry settings for the profile, though. I wasn't able to check that early on.

Im going to run a test on my virtual machine and see what I could come up with. Is it possible to get a picture of what you see in the registry under Profile List ?

I'm not really sure how I'd be able to do that at this point. I doubt screenshots would work even if I could transfer it back onto my own computer.

Ok lets try this

Inside the command prompt type in the command below

Code:
wmic useraccount where name='oldname' rename[username].old
Note   Note
Use quotes as it shows

press [ENTER]

Then recreate the account

Code:
net user oldusername /add
press [ENTER]

THEN

Code:
net localgroup Administrators (User Account Name) /add
Then once you have recreated the name. Go to regedit and delete the SID and it should recreate the SID once you're able to login with the recreated user ID.

First thing I have to mention is that the name that is used to log in with (Kelly) is not the same as what is in the users folder (David). So, I tried renaming Kelly at first, since that's what it says when I log into it, and that failed. When I used David, it seemed like it worked, but the folder's name wasn't actually changed. I'll post what it says:

Executing (\\David-PC\Root\CIMV2:Win32_UserAccount.Domain="david-PC",Name="David")-)rename()
Method execution successful.
Out Parameters:
instance of __PARAMETERS
(
ReturnValue = 9;
);

And when I followed that up with recreating the same name, it says that account already exists.

The profile with the issue is Kelly? Right

so you would enter wmic useraccount where name='Kelly' rename Kelly.old

Then type in net user Kelly /add

then type in net localgroup Administrators Kelly /add Restart the computer and you should see Three accounts before you log in

Here's the odd part. The users folder is c:\Users\David, but what I see when I get to the Windows login is Kelly. When I use Kelly in the above script, it says "No instance available". I just tried David instead (and I had originally run the command with the brackets still around David, so I didn't do that this time) and it said it was successful. I then added a new David account, set the admin rights and restarted. When I got into the logon screen, it had the admin, David, Kelly, and Davidtest (the profile I added earlier when I was troubleshooting this myself). I tried to log into the newly-created David account, and it had all the same problems as all the other accounts that aren't the Kelly account, which means I couldn't get into the command prompt from there, or regedit. And so I've now logged back out of that one and into the Kelly profile. Regedit doesn't show any added profiles. It's all as it was.
