Unusual Windows 7 PC Problem, Please Help!

Unusual Windows 7 PC Problem, Please Help!

I woke up and my computer had restarted itself. When I logged back on I had a ton of problems. I took some screen shots to help explain whats going on.

Unknown Extra Space not displayed on my monitor:

    Problems with Task Bar's previews:

    Window Snap Not working:

system restore error: (I did disable all antivirus programs and tried different rollback points)

I'm very tech savvy, but cannot figure this one out.
I also have the ability to use the window key + arrow key combo to snap the the left, but there is still that weird empty space there.

    Please help.

Hi WasteofADrumBum and welcome to Seven Forums.

I had that issue with my own pc with the restore. Try going into safe mode to do the system restore. Here is how to get to safe mode: Advanced Boot Options

You can also try SysRestore from System Recovery Options.

Since you're tech savvy you'll have a DVD or System Repair Disk.

I'd also run a full scan with Malwarebytes from Safe Mode if necessary, and SUPERAntiSpyware.as soon as you get to the desktop.

If these won't run then download and burn to CD or write to flash stick Windows Defender Offline to run a full scan.

Then run SFC /SCANNOW Run in Command Prompt at Boot from DVD or CD.

What you call extra space is very clearly a second display. I'll bet you have Extended Desktop for two displays set in Screen Resolution Tool but you are only using one physical display.

Fix: open Screen Resolution Tool by right clicking on an empty spot in Desktop and selecting it from the context menu. Set your system to only use your current physical display.

    Hi Wasteofdrum.

With regards to the taskbar preview problem (and window snap as well), it seems you're using Windows 7 basic theme. Basic theme doesn't support Aero features like taskbar previews. Open up Personalisation and click on one of the Windows Aero theme. That should do the job.

    Problem solved

I figured it out. For starters system restore never worked and there was nothing wrong with windows itself. Also, it was a second display problem, but not with the actual graphics card so it didn't show up in any of the settings. I realized that a registry scanner I had deleted something in the Air Display directory. Air Display, for those of you who don't already know, is a program used to make you iPad a second display. I use it to enable my iPad to be a tablet for photoshop. Once I uninstalled Air Display and reinstalled it (after rebooting my computer) the problem resolved itself. If anyone has this problem I suggest starting with any wireless monitor displays such as Air Display.
