Disk defragmenter windows 7 a couple of questions?

I would like to ask the following questions

    1) Can doing disk defragmenter damage hard drive or the laptop or doing it alot?

    2) If I was in the middle of disk fragmenting and someone moved a chair causing floor vibration will this harm the hard drive or the laptop while disk fragmenting.

Hi John, both your questions have already been answered but I would like to add a bit of info:

    1. You should frequently defrag your HDD only if you keep on adding/moving/deleting data all the time. Otherwise, defragging it, like daily doesn't make much sense. Defragmenting twice or thrice a month should do just fine.

    2. You must protect your system from heavier shocks and vibrations while your HDD is being accessed. Vibration caused by chair movement is very miniscule and doesn't affect the HDD.

The others are right, the answer to both questions is no but if you have a Solid State Drive, never defragment.
