    Problems with Naming Files

    Hello,
I have been having a very weird problem lately. When attempting to rename a file (the screenshot is of a .exe on the start menu, but I am having this problem with Libraries), windows states that there is another file with the same name in the same location; however, I am not able to see any files with the same name.

I have tried re-creating the start menu error, and I have no clue how to do so. When attempting to re-create the error in the libraries, it won't let me rename a default library to the same name as a named library that was dragged to the recycle bin, however, it does not give me the error that there is another file with the same name, and when attempting to rename a new library that I created, it would rename it without any problems. In addition, I can rename the default library to whatever I want, but not the name of another library that was previously created, and then deleted.

So, somehow, there are these "ghost files" that I cannot see, but prevent me from renaming other files. If anyone has any idea to what might be causing this problem, I would greatly appreciate help.

    Thanks in advance,
    The Me

Attached are some pictures that show the lack of another .exe and windows preventing me from naming it.

Hi and welcome to the Forum
I'm somewhat confused here! You say you are trying to rename an exe file but your screenshot shows you trying to rename a shortcut. The easy way to do this is go to your Desktop, locate the shortcut, right click on it and choose rename. Then delete the entry in the start menu. Then go to the desktop, locate the newly named shortcut, right click it and choose "Pin to Start menu"
Now lets look at the Libraries. Please state sinply what you want to do here ie what is showing now when you open "Libraries" and what you want it to show. A screenshot of what is there now will help!

Judging by the second picture you are renaming a shortcut that is located on the Quick Launch toolbar of a Taskbar.
BUT on the first picture it is clear that Quick Launch is not activated.

I would suggest to navigate to Quick Launch folder and rename that shortcut.
You can do that by coping and pasting this line in search area of a Start menu and hitting Enter.
    Code:
    %userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch
