how can I clean the files and settings from my old computer?

As soon as I transfer my files and settings from my old computer to the new one - both Windows 7 - is there a quick way to clean all the stuff from the old one so that I can sell it? I have the huge Windows 7 Inside Out book but I don't know where to look to find the magic button to press.

    Hi Tommy,

    Try this:

Darik's Boot and Nuke - Use to Secure Wipe a Hard Drive

Do you want to sell the old machine with a blank hard drive, or with only Windows on it?

If you wish to sell it with Windows, I suppose that the safest way would be to use one of the methods posted previously to wipe the drive, and then do a fresh Win7 installation. The main problem with that is that if you wish to be kind, you'd have to download all the Windows updates.

Another alternative would be to manually uninstall or delete all of your personal stuff, and then use CCleaner to wipe the free space. That may be more work than doing the wipe & fresh install.
