    Hashes, how to use them.

    Hello friends.
...could someone help me for the below :
Often when we download a large file, drivers or an .iso etc they give the Hashes
MD5:, SHA-1 for to check the integrity of the file after (if I understood it well)
My problem is that I cannot find them and I don't know where to look for them,
..There are not in properties or in help menu.
Can you help me telling me where I have to search, how to use them?
    Thank you

You need a program to generate the MD5/SHA-1 hash for you. I use md5sums for this but I'm sure there are many others that are easier to use.

    HashCheck Shell Extension

I have a shell extension called "HashCheck Shell Extension".
It adds a tab called "Checksums" to the "Properties" window.

FreeCommander (a file manager) also has a MD5 creator and verifier built-in.
