Hello csxy0de, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If you are unable to right click on the desktop and click on New -> Folder to create a new folder, then see if downloading and merging the .reg files for the listed directory and folder options in the tutorial below may help. It will restore their default associations and registry entries.

Default File Type Associations - Restore

    Hope this helps, :)

I tried the above as well as making sure that my virus protection was up to date and then doing a complete virus scan. The results were unchanged, I am still unable to open a new folder and when I look a folder properties they are shown as read only and when I change that, immediately they all change back to read only. I am seriously concerned that I am have an undetected virus

    Hi caxy0de

    Click on Download Now button

Double click the dds icon to run the tool.

Place a check next to attact.txt and click Start . When done, DDS will open two logs
    DDS.txt
    Attach.txt

Save two logs onto your desktop and upload them with your reply

Please don't zip the Attach.txt file

This is getting more confusing to me, I am still not able to make a new folder, but just discovered that by opening a location via the computer folder in windows start lower left I can make an item called a Briefcase which seems to be able to serve the same function as a folder.

Run Malwarebytes Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware removes malware including viruses, spyware, worms and trojans, plus it protects your computer

When the installation is done uncheck Enable free trial of Malwarebytes (see image below )

Update the definitions and do a full scan

After running the AdwCleaner, I am able to make new folders in some programs but unable to make folder (can make Briefcase) from the computer folder on start menu. Still files are shown as read only and revert instantly if changed.
