Link to the Windows Explorer Favorites from Start Menu

The Windows 7 Start menu, right pane, has a link to Favorites, which is associated with Internet Explorer. But there is another "Favorites" in Windows 7 which is a major item in the Windows Explorer navigation pane where the user may locate a shortcut to a frequently used folder. Is it possible to set a link to this Folder from the Start menu, similar to the link to Documents, Pictures, Music, etc which link to the named folder in the Libraries folder?

Hello SR,

If you like, you could use the tutorial below to create a Favorites shortcut for this that can be pinned to the Start Menu and/or where you like as well.

Favorites Shortcut - Create

Hope this helps,

Shawn,

Thank you for responding.

If I am not mistaken, the methods that you show here pin the shortcut in the Start Menu but in the Left Pane, in the Frequently Used programs list. Is this not true? What I am looking for is a way to place this link in the Right Pane, along with the User Link, Documents, Pictures, etc. and of course, the Internet Favorites, which are already there.

Yes, it would be pinned to the left side at the top of the Start Menu.

Windows 7 doesn't provide a way to add custom buttons to the right dark side of the Start Menu other than the default ones you can choose from, but you might give the free program Start Menu X a try to see how you may like it for customization.

Well, this might be cheating but this is how I resolved this:

Select a seldom used Start Menu item from the Customize pop-up (I chose Videos) and activate it with "Display as Menu". Open Windows Explorer and select the Libraries folder, placing all the active Libraries in the right pane. Right Click on Videos and rename the Library as "Favorites". Now right click it again and select Properties to open the pop-up which is now called "Favorites Properties". Click on the Include a folder... button below the Library locations: window and select each of the folders that yo have placed in the traditional Favorites folder in Windows Explorer, the one with the Star as an icon. You can actually do this directly from the Favorites folder in the Include Folder pop-up window rather than from the original location of each of the various folders that you have included in Favorite.

This procedure places a menu-styled button in the right pane of the start menu that allows easy access to the Favorites from Windows Explorer. The only thing that is not quite correct is that it retains the Icon of Videos, but who cares.

I hope that this might be of interest to others.

Display Favorites as a link not a menu in Start Menu
I think the only thing that will work here is a registry hack. By default if you set the start menu properties to display "favorites" it does so by a menu. It does not give you a choice to display this as a link or a menu like it does for other folders. Is there a way to fix this?
