    file windows 7 old


    I Installed win 7 home premium 64 bit over my old win7 hp 64. when finished I found it took 150GB. I then formatted. and custom installed win 7 hp 64, clean. took 45GB so okay. However I still have windows 7 old files. what to do now.

    Hello Robie, and welcome to Seven Forums.

    If there's nothing in the C:\Windows.old folder you want to copy back, then it's perfectly safe to delete if you like. The Windows.old folder is just a copy of your previous installation's files to serve as a backup.

    Windows should only take up 18-20 GBs. You did not choose custom during the install or you did not format it properly. Before you start installing all your software I would re install windows.

    Like everyone is saying, clean re-install and then run a disk cleanup to delete system and temporary files. If there is a Windows.old file still, that should clean it up.
