Not able to convert a dynamic disk to a basic disk

Hi...

Am trying to convert a 2TB Sata from a dynamic drive to a basic one. Hve followed all the steps... Removed all volumes, etc.

But i right click on the disk and click the Convert to Basic, I keep getting this message, "The operation is not allowed on a disk that is offline."

Cant's figure out why as the disk shows Online. Have also tried it through the Command Prompt using Diskpart. The status shows it is online, has no volumes and Read Only is set to 'No'. However, when I enter the Convert Basic command, I get the same message, "The operation is not allowed on a disk that is offline."

Grateful for any help...

Try wiping the HD first with Diskpart Clean Command to clear the boot sector before running "Convert Basic."

If that fails try using the non-destructive conversion tool on Partition Wizard which is still a free feature in version 4.2: pw422.zip ISO - Windows Live.

Burn ISO file to CD with Windows Image Burner, boot CD, highlight disk number, from Disk tab select Convert to Basic, OK, Apply.

If those fail then I'd run the HD maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan followed by Disk Check on a full disk partition you create.

Many thanks gregrocker...

The 'Clean' command did the trick... I'd created a new volume, just so i could use the disk... but 'Clean' not only removed the volume but seemed to convert it to a basic disk at the same time... when I typed in 'convert basic', i got a message saying the disk had to be dynamic to convert to basic. And Disk Management now showed it to now be a 'Basic'!

Thanks again!

Cheers...
