Problem with Jump List with files on a NAS

I have a strange problem with my jump lists. I am not sure what triggered it or when.

Description:
When I open a file (for a given file type - see below) from my local HD it shows a unique entry for the jump list. In other words, when I open files A.doc, B.doc, C.doc I see three separate entries in the jump list. This is how it should behave.
When I open files on a P2P share on a Windows XP laptop again I get an entry for each one - as it should behave.
However, when I open files from my NAS (LinkStation Pro Duo through Samba shares), I only get the last single file opened. In other words, when I open files X.doc, Y.doc, Z.doc I see one entry on the jump list and it is the last one opened (or closed).

This occurs In Office 2010, Adobe Reader, VisualStudio 2010, Paint.NET or other application that shows files in its jump list. This tells me it is not an Office or other application-only problem.
This occurs on all accounts on this laptop - even when creating a new account. This tells me it is not a user problem.
I have tried all the suggestions from the forums here (which I might add did a more thorough coverage than the google searches produced) except reverting to a previous restore point. I would like to avoid that if possible.
I have all the latest MS Updates installed. I recently went through a massive reinstall of my system due to a HD failure. My vanilla image that I got back from IT was Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit (as before) and Office 2010 with my network and local user accounts restored but not installed applications or registry. I have since installed several applications and updates in a short period (~ 1 week).

This is a strange problem. So any help or sympathy is appreciated.

Addendum: When I look in the recent documents (File>Recent) of an Office 2010 program (i.e. Excel), all my recent documents are listed no matter where they are at.
