How are you planning to upgrade with no 7 install media?

You can d/l the iso you want and install it from boot in the normal way

If the version of the install media matches what is installed on the PC you do not have to remove the ei.cfg file.

You will need a w7 installer to upgrade from Vista. XP will require a clean, or so-called, Custom install.

As long as you have an XP or Vista license, it doesn`t even have to be installed, correct ?

True, unless they want to do the upgrade path from Vista.
