Is it possible to disable double clicking entirely?

    Hi,

I was wondering if it's possible to kill the double click feature entirely. Not just for folders, but within all programs, menus, etc. I tried to search but couldn't find a way to disable it globally.

I have an older mouse that I'm rather attached to but is no longer produced. It double/triple clicks anything I single click on (both right and left buttons are now pretty bad). It's gotten so bad I can no longer click & drag files or even highlight any text. I've opened it up and cleaned it with electrical cleaner, which made it a bit better, but it's still bad. The rest of the buttons are fine though. I've also already tried increasing the double click speed to max both in the windows settings and as low as possible via registry. Still double clicks.

Anyway, I was wondering if it's possible to avoid finding a new one by just disabling double click functionality for everything. Is there a way to do that?

    Thanks!

Here's what I found by googling "How to disable double clicking!"
Single-Click or Double-Click to Open an Item

You might want to check other responses in case this doesn't work for you.

Yes it is. I have singled clicked for years.
Start Orb and type in Folder Options/General/You will see the single click option there.

I don't think this is possible. The system detects that a double click has taken place and then sends a message to the active application. After that it is all up to the application. You can set the double click time in control panel but that likely won't make it short enough. If the location in the registry could be located it may be possible to shorten this time. Or maybe not.

But really I think it is time for a new mouse.

Howling Wolves & Layback Bear - not really what I'm looking for. I don't want to single click to open instead of double clicking, I want double clicks to be ignored as if they were single clicks only. I.e. I want to be able to click and drag a file (as you can when you single click) without it activating (my mouse is double clicking on it's own).

LMiller7 - yes, as I've mentioned in my post I've tried playing with it in regedit. I've tried a setting of 100 and even 1 and it still double clicked. I've been told 0 would not work.

    Thanks for your responses.

Sounds like it's not possible to disable...

It sounds like you are having issues to your mouse. Why not decrease the sensativity. Go to control panel (large icons) click mouse and decrease the sensativity of your mouse.

essenbe - Yes, I have tried changing it in the control panel and in the registry beyond that limit. It still wasn't enough, that's why I was wondering if there was a way to just completely disable it, as in, on/off, so that it never acknowledges a double click anywhere.

    Sadly it doesn't seem so.

I'd find another mouse, you will fall in love again.

I bought a spare when I did and still 2 years+ on the first one.

I would like to ask just one question in Windows Explorer how do you select folder/file? draw circles around? because when you single click it opens not selects.
