Lost Settings After Moving the ntuser.dat File To The New User Folder

Several months ago I created a new user name, set it as administrator and deleted my old one. Tonight I moved the ntuser.dat file to the new user folder in C:\Users folder, while logged in with the built-in administrator log in. Upon logging back in with my new user name all my settings were lost: My desktop settings and layout, Outlook wouldn't open, etc. So, even though the old user no longer exists, when logging in it is still looking to the folder with the old user name for all settings. The old user name folder could not be renamed, deleted, or modified in any way. Does anyone know how I can migrate all the files and the ntuser.dat file over to the new user folder and point the system to that folder for settings?

I hope I was clear, feel free to ask questions, and thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide.

That file and two others are profile specific and should not be copied over.

See here: Fix a corrupted user profile
