    Toshiba Satellite periodically freezes

    Howdy all,

I am running Windows 7 Professional x32 on a Toshiba Satellite A-205 laptop. The OS worked fairly well until about a month and a half ago and then it began freezing for ~two minute intervals about every 5-10 minutes. Within the first five minutes of booting up I get this issue and it persist. It seems to happen considerably more when I am watching videos from the internet (eg. Youtube/Hulu). I run AVG 2013 Free Edition and I've scanned and never found anything more than tracking cookies. I'm also running SpyBot and have made sure that Windows 7 is always updated. The only unusual thing that I've noticed is that when I ran StartUp Manager I found a suspicious program called ROC_ROC_APR2013_AV; Registry\Current User\Run; when I first found this there was more details saying it pertained to a weird AVG April sale, but I find this unusual since AVG has installed no such files in the past. I removed this program, but am still having issues. I've heard that clearing the Registry can help, but this seems rather drastic and dangerous and would like to use that as a last resort. I appreciate any help. Thanks!

No one here recommends AVG which bloated up some years back and never slimmed back down to provide the kind of performance offered by Microsoft Security Essentials or Avast.

Work through these Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7.

But if this is the original factory preinstalled Win7 be aware that is a corrupt install loaded with bloatware and duplicate utilities that have better versions built into Win7. For this reason most tech enthusiasts prefer to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 following the steps in blue link to get a perfect install.
