Reg Hive Files Missing
Hey people,
My computer stopped booting not so long ago after I attempted to clean off some trojans that malwarebytes had discovered. It said it would reapir the problem on bootup but I never got past the windows loading screen. No blue screen, the computer just rebooted constantly. I couldn't even get into safe mode.
The windows OEM disc cannot repair the problem automatically. I suspect the trojans have trashed some of my registry hive files. After chekcing the backups of my registry hives, I found 2 missing.
For now I'm using a second installation of Windows 7 that I installed on a seperate HDD. I have access to my original HDD and there doesn't seem to be any hardware issues.
My questions are:
Is there a way to repair my registry hive files?
Would this be fixed by a "Custom" install of windows over the original to repair the hive files? - Would this keep the installed programs?
Would I be better off keeping with my new OS install and transfering my files across?
Any other ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated =)
