    remove "recent locations" from desktop

    hi all,

for some strange reason i added some sort of shortcut from "recent locations" on my desktop.. only it isn't a normall shortcut,
more somthing like the Trashcan and My Computer kind of shortcut, because i cant just remove it by right click remove of just selecting and hit Delete

the only options given when right mouse click are:
    - open
    - erase list of recent items
    - create shortcut

so i have no idea how to get this of my desktop..

    hope someone can help..

    kind regards

    mike

Hello Mike, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You might see if it will let you drag and drop it into the Recycle Bin to delete it.

If not, then post a screenshot of regedit at these locations with all of the right pane showing. I'll see if something is in there that may be responsible.

    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer \HideDesktopIcons\ClassicStartMenu

    and

    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer \HideDesktopIcons\NewStartPanel

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

You should be able to open the start menu, find the same folder, and right click. Then UNCHECK show on desktop.

    Mikey,

Go ahead and post the screenshots from the registry locations from my post above. I'll take a look to see if I can spot a possible culprit there.

    Mikey,

Nothing in those registry locations but the default values. Could you post a screenshot of this shortcut on the desktop to see if it may help ID what it may be from.

I checked in the Start Menu as David posted above, but I have no option to uncheck for "Recent Locations" or "Recent Items".

I had a similar problem with a file that I could not delete. I tried everything; finally I dragged it out of its present location (in your case desktop) and put it in another (my documents); I was then able to delete it. May not work for you, but there are no charges for trying.
