"My Pictures" not loading from Start menu, and won't arrange

Hi,

I'm trying to go through my photos to pull from particular months and days, and find that I can no longer arrange the My Pictures folder (which has many subfolders full of photos) to view the photos arranged by month, day, tag, or rating.

My first indication of something being amiss was noticing that I couldn't access the photos from my Start menu as per usual. Clicking on the Pictures link on the right side of the Start menu does nothing, so I have to go to Documents, then select Libraries->Pictures->My Pictures. Once there, I try to arrange the photos by a criterion other than the folder name, and the pull-down menu lets me pull down but does nothing when I select an option.

Is there a way for me to fix this? Thanks so much for your help!

One feature I really liked in XP was the ability to look in a folder through My Computer and sort the files by extension. For example if I wanted to get all .jpg files to one side of the folder as I looked for a file, I could click View, Arrange Icons By, Type and make that happen. I don't see...

Pinning "New" and "Open" Word document to start menu
Using Word 2007, I am unable to pin the "New" and "Open" Word Document to the Start Menu. I was able to do this in XP and Vista. I go to "All Programs" and can load Word but cannot find the options new/open. In Word I go to "Word Options" and it is not listed there either. Thanks.
