Laptop turns on by itself during the night.

Hey, i have a problem. My laptop turns on by itself during the night. This happens very often, like 5 times a week. This is very frustrating because it kills my battery and the next day i have to charge it. I never shutdown the laptop, i put it in sleep mode/hibernate. Also, the screen was down so i don't know how did it turned on. An example: Today i was talking on the phone and the laptop was sleeping (the power LED was blinking) but, it turned on without any reason.
Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance.

Do a shutdown. Then it won't happen.

Else you have to go into the device properties of all devices in Device Manager and look for the 'Allow this device to wake up the computer' and change those. Of course not for the keyboard and mouse.

Here is one example from my system. But there may be other devices that can wake up the system. Go thru all of those that have a Power Management button in Properties. But leave Keyboard and Mouse alone.

Do it happen when in sleep mode (laptop is actually still on!! And uses power from battery)?
Or are you talking about hibernation?

It's never good to have laptops sleep/hibernate all the time. I often had problems with my laptop after hibernating and sleeping i.e. slows down, running apps crash. It's always healthy to just restart your laptop maybe a couple days a week.
But for the actual problem just follow whs's instructions, they're probably your best bet if you insist on keeping your lappy hibernating or sleeping all the time.

You can also look at this tutorial and try determine what caused the wake up.

Acer Laptop turns on by itself

My Acer is doing the same thing. The trouble it is, it isn't consistent. Sometimes it does it, sometimes it doesn't. I looked at all of the items in the Device Manager and all except my mouse were not able to wake the computer. I unchecked this and it is still doing it. I looked at the system logs and it shows a random wake up, but it says source unknown.

    Virus maybe?
