    Help with 'TAKEOWN' command

I am trying to take administrative ownership of a folder and it's subfiles. I cannot get cmd and the takeown command to find the file path. Here is what I've tried:

    TAKEOWN /F C:\ProgramFiles\xxx\xxx\xxx

    TAKEOWN /S system U/ xxx P/ xxx /F C:\ProgramFiles\xxx\xxx\xxx

neither is working, I get a some form or another of the 'cannot find specified path or network etc.

    Please help!

Put the entire path in quotes - the space in "Program Files" has caused more headaches than any other single character, anywhere, ever.

    From your example: TAKEOWN /F "C:\Program Files\xxx\xxx\xxx"

Oki that seemed to solve that problem, but another has arisen. It has given me 'current logged on user doesn't ownership'.

Well duh, that's why I'm trying to take ownership. My user profile is set as administrator. What else can I do?

Run the command from an elevated CMD prompt (right-click the CMD shortcut, "run as admin").

That's different to the error you posted previously, isn't it?

Some system directories don't really "exist", in the sense that they're there for compatibility with apps written for previous versions of Windows. Make sure you're only trying to alter permissions on data, not system stuff.

If everything you are doing well and still have error "access denied" it may be also caused due to used by system some files or subfolders in object which you want takeownership.Try to do that in safe mode or try alternative tool like SetACL SetACL - Windows permission management or just classic method through GUI http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67...ship-file.html

I have registry entries you run to add a "Take Ownership" option when you right-click any folder or file. PM me if your interested in them. Cheers.

What are you trying to take ownership of and why? If you cannot or don't have a good answer for why then you should not be doing this!
