Doesn't hibernate after drive format

Greetings! I have a problem and would appreciate any help. I'll try to explain it as detailed as possible (maybe mentioning some irrelevant info, just in case)

1. I have 2 hard drives
first - [C:\ - windows 7 partition][D:\ - just a file storage partition][E:\ - just a file storage partition]
second - [F:\ - Ubuntu partition]

2. I have been dual-booting this setup for a year (hibernating win7 and logging into Ubuntu, etc.), no problems

3. Recently I had to
3.1 format drive E:\
3.2 reinstall Ubuntu (probably irrelevant)

After that, win7 doesn't hibernate anymore (when I try to hibernate, it just turns off the screen and I can hear everything humming and working; hiberfil.sys on each of the drives C:\, D:\ and F:\ is being written to, but on E:\ it hasn't been even created since the format).

Did you unplug all other HD's when reinstalling Ubuntu to E, as should always be done when doing any install or repair?

Are you using GRUB bootloader which can interfere with WIn7 and cause problems, or are you booting your choice of HD's by having Win7 HD set first to boot, or triggering E HD with the one-time BIOS Boot menu key at boot?

Please post back a screenshot of your maximized Disk Mgmt drive map and listings, using the Snipping Tool in Start Menu.

gregrocker, Thanks for the reply.

My E:\ drive is just a file storage, there is no OS installed there. Ubuntu had been on F:\ (separate physical hard drive) before and was reinstalled on F:\ again.

I didn't unplug the [C,D,E] drive because I thought that since I'm installing OS on a separate physical drive it shouldn't be a problem (which is clearly a mistake which I'll be more careful with in the future, but it worked so far)

For the last year this is how it booted up (both options worked perfectly with win7 hibernated):
- grub by default, there I could choose win7
- or I just hit 'F12' key and manually chose the drive with win7 boot if I didn't want to wait for grub

So, basically, that's the options #1 and #3 that you've described.

I will attach the screenshot; however, I don't have the option of rebooting with English UI, so I'll provide the info below in written form as well.

Disk 0 :
F - Basic - Primary - NTFS - Healthy - Paging File, Active, Primary // just files
? - Basic - Primary - ????? - Healthy - Primary // That's where Ubuntu is installed
? - Basic - Primary - ????? - Healthy - Primary // That's Ubuntu's swap

Disk 1:
C - Basic - Primary - NTFS - Healthy - System, Boot, Dump, Primary // That's where win7 is installed
D - Basic - Primary - NTFS - Healthy - Primary // just files
E - Basic - Primary - NTFS - Healthy - Primary // just files

Again, worked\hibernated without any issues for a long time. Then the MFT of 'E:\' partition got messed up, so I restored the files and then formatted it, as well as reinstalled Ubuntu (to the same drive with F:\ partition).

I will provide diskmgmt screenshot with English UI if necessary but can't do that right now, unfortunately. And again, thanks for the answer. It's not a huge problem, but the hibernation is very handy.

edit bcdedit gives me the following, I wonder if it is related. Also, the 'Boot' tab in msconfig is empty and unclickable.

Can you uninstall GRUB from Ubuntu and boot it using the F12 key, then mark Win7 Active and all other partitions inactive, unplug all other HD's to run a few Startup Repairs on Win7 to check its boot is in order and boot it the same way? GRUB is the first suspect in your problem.

If not then work through the Troubleshooting Steps to look for clues.

Hm, I used EasyBCD, clicked on a few things and now everything is fine and hibernates. Thanks for the replies! Probably should be more careful with all those third party programs though, and a windows recovery disk should always be nearby.
