windows 7 says I need administrators permission

It is for whenever a file will not cooperate for any reason. It grants your User ownership of the file.

It shows you what and how to back up from and for your laptop in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. Can you explain a bit more what it is you're unclear about?

You only need the two Network LAN drivers from HP.

You also need the latest official installer for your version burned to DVD from Steps 1 and 2.

What programs do you use that you will want reinstalled? Look over your Start>All Programs list.

Sigh! I have no idea so this will take awhile. I will try and figure out what I am asking as I don't know anything. A computer is like my car. There are 4 tires I have checked and changed 2 times a year by someone from the state. I have a steering wheel, a clutch, brake and gas pedal and a place to put the keys. I know where the windshield wipers are and that is it. A noise is a noise a clunk is a clunk and I depend on the yearly big car instpections from the state to tell me what to fix and the yearly in the garage checks required to also tell me. In between my husband does all the driving and car care and if there is something wrong he takes it to the garage. I know nothing. I use my pc for entertainment, writing friends, downloading some stuff. Getting kindle books and making email stationery. I know that stuff not the computer. We just live in the same room. I will get back later after I look up everything and see what I don't know then. I guess I need someone to say - go here and download this and this and this and back it up and tell me it is done. I will be back later but probably a lot later friends from Germany stopping by to visit.

It makes backing up your data much easier if you'll sort all of your files into the User folders under your active User account.

Then whichever User folders under your name have data - Documents, Desktop, Music, Favorites, Pictures, Downloads (place to put your drivers and installers for programs) can be dragged or copied to your backup. Just be sure to check that the files are inside each in the backup.

I am not questioning what you want me to do but how to do it and is this correct? I have everything in the user folders now and on my external. I have added things I wanted to save and those are on the external as they came in my emails. I downloaded all the programs I use like spybot and Panda scan etc and instead of run I saved and those are all on my flash drive. We gave my grand daughter a pc 15 years ago. They needed internet put in so the next week when the guy came and set it up he said now get your antivirus in now. She had the url for AVG and as she was typing it into internet the guy was packing up his stuff and the pc was hit and wiped out. So I am always scared since then.
Is it a clean dvd we are talking about? It says Windows 7 dvd but I have 4 dvd's for the pc backup done Jan 2012 and I don't know if I can add anything. Frankly I am not at all sure all of the directions are clear or not. There are so many but I will try. Does it all have to be done at one time? Sorry about this.

Well the procedure SIW2 sets out to update the installation media is quite advanced so I don't know if you want to take it on, but you'd sure learn a lot if you do. Otherwise it means an extra hour or so of WIndows Updates after you get online and start running them straight off, both Important and Optional.

I would stick with the AV, tools and methods in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 to get the absolute best performance. I can connect, transfer these over and install them for you if you'd like while the Updates are downloading and installing, set up your Win7 perfectly for best performance.

The Win7 installer from Step 1 will burn to a single DVD using the tool in Step 2. Then test it by rebooting and tapping the ESC or F9 key to choose the DVD drive to boot, see if the DVD loads and presents the first screen shown in Clean Install Windows 7 which is the illustrated tutorial of the actual install itself.

1. Download the same latest official Win7 installer ISO with SP1 and Media Refresh as your 32-bit or 64-bit licensed Windows version.

• You can slipstream the latest Updates into the installer ISO to save at least an hour's Updating after install using Update 7 installation media.

• If the licensed OS printed on the COA sticker on bottom is Home Basic then download Home Premium, run the eicfg removal tool to unlock all versions, later during install choose the licensed version from menu.

2. Burn ISO to DVD or write to USB flash stick (minimum size of 4GB required) using Windows 7 USB-DVD Download Tool.
Where in here does it say anything about AV, Tools and methods? If I click on the top "1 I get a page that I don't see anything to click on to download. I am so totally lost am I hopeless? I am glad the other url I asked about is to advanced because that didn't really mean much when I read it. This page with step 1 and 2 doesn't make much more sense. My son said any idiot can do this so I must be worse than an idiot. To bad he is in MO and I am in Sweden. I wasn't referring to these steps in my reference to the tools and methods which work best with Win7. These are elsewhere in the tutorial, particularly in the latter set-up steps.

Do you use English Win7? If so you only need to download Win7 Home Premium x64 SP1 English Official ISO download and burn it to DVD with Windows 7 USB-DVD Download Tool .

If you use another language the let us know if it is available in the downloads list in Step 1.

To be absolutely sure of the exact version I would look on the COA sticker on the bottom of the laptop to report back exactly what it specifies for the licensed version.

Bonnie, Win7 cannot be sold preinstalled on a PC without a COA sticker - pictured in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

It will be there somewhere on the tower, likely on the back. Look closely.

Without it you cannot Clean Reinstall.

I would consider doing the alternative of running Minimal HP System Recovery. If you choose Minimal Recovery it will be almost the same as doing a Clean Reinstall. If you have wireless it will use the HP Wireless Manager which needs to be turned off, then uninstalled, then connect wirelessly through the Win7 System Tray connection icon.
