I ran sfc /scannow and no text is seen on explorer

I ran sfc /scannow on command prompt. It said that bad files were found and fixed. I rebooted computer and it updated. After I saw the explorer screen there is no text below icons. I can't open start menu. Right-clicking on desktop shows options that have no text in them. If I open "my computer" I can see nothing but white backround in it. Opening notepad files or picture files doesn't work either. Pretty much the only thing usable is this Firefox which I'm desperately using to get help for my problem. Everything seems to work in Firefox still.

I tried starting on safe mode by tapping F8 before windows starts. It gives the option of using either hard drive or DVD drive for boot but no safe mode. I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit OEM version. I can provide more details if needed.

I managed to open some files through trial and error. CCleaner, which I had desktop icon, reports that I have "StartCCC" program located at "C:\Program Files (x86)\ATI techlologies\ATI.ACE\Core-Static\CLIstart.exe" MSRUN
set to be run at startup. I don't recognize the program as I like to keep the startup list as small as possible. Can I prevent this program from running without messing up my system further?

Autoruns tool reports following files missing:
rdpclip
CLIstart.exe (see above)
Internet Explorer (c:\Windows\system32\ie4uinit.exe) <--- wtf??? This has surely changed
aey4ulmi (c:\Windows\system32\Drivers\aey4ulmi.sys)
AODDriver 4.01
LNLdisMP (system32\DRIVERS\nlndis.sys)
LNLdisPT (system32\DRIVERS\nlndis.sys)
VIDC.RTV1 (rtvcvfw32.dll)

CCC is Catalyst Control Center for your AMD graphics chip. It does not need to run and could be uninstalled through Control Panel/Program and Features. CCC is more trouble than beneficial in my opinion.
IF you have CCleaner it can be used to disable the CCC in Startup by going to Tools/Startup, highlight CCC then Disable on the right side of the window.

For the no text display try a System Restore If that doesn't fix it you'll need a Repair Install

Why did you run the sfc scan?

"I rebooted computer and it updated"=> Why did it update and what? sfc/scannow doesn't force an update!

Was the no text problem already there before sfc/scannow and before the update?

run sfc/scannow again. No integrity errors anymore?

rdpclip is for remote desktop clipboard. Ever used termnial server?
aey4ulmi=>you have daemon tools installed?
AMD OverDrive->AMD overdrive
VIDC.RTV1->msi afterburner
LNLdisPT, LNLdisMT->NetLimiter

Reinstall that stuff after problem has been solved.

I disabled CCC. No visible change.
I'm not sure how to do the system restore. Start menu is not usable and My Computer is just blank white screen. OEM discs don't have system repair option, only full reformat which I'd rather use as very last resort. If I buy the full non-OEM version of Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit can I use the disc to repair my windows? I can probably run that instead of starting windows from HD when starting up.

I used sfc /scannow in an attempt to solve recent blue screen error. I had had problems with Explorer ever since removing virus with AVG (happened more than 1 year ago). It messed up Explorer by making it reset folder view presets. SFC /scannow "fixed" something and there was prompt to restart computer for the changes to take effect. I received similar "updating windows" text upon startup as when using windows update and then the disaster struck when I saw the desktop screen. I don't know how to access command prompt now.

Thanks for info Kaktussoft. MSI Afterburner and DaemonTools work correctly as far as I know. I get scared of words "remote desktop" and have habit of disabling / removing windows components with name like that. AMD Overdrive is probably related to some driver software and I don't remember where I got NetLimiter.

Sometimes it works out 'faster' to simply reinstall the operating system rather than keep going round in circles. Been there, got the tshirt, etc, etc myself many many times. Just make sure you've got all your data backed up to another drive.

Do you have a win7 "repair disc"? System Repair Disc - Create
Do you have a win7 install dvd?

Or try to boot "safe mode" or "safe mode with command prompt". Try to press F8

F8 seems to be the boot device selection button as well on your machine. Select hard drive there (and probably press enter). Now it boots from harddisk. Press IMMEDIATELY f8 a couple of times. Works?

You can now select "safe mode" and "safe mode with command prompt".
even "repair your computer"->"system restore"

- I did just like you said and managed to get into windows repair mode. From there I selected the system restore option into past point two weeks ago. It gave "undefined error" (0x80070002), but when I rebooted the system the icon texts and other stuff are now back! You have my eternal gratitude. Having to reformat would have lost me hundreds of gigabytes of data, schoolwork and memories. There's still some windows updates to do, but I'm confident the disaster has been avoided.

Thank you.
