Replace 128GB SSD move system programs data to boot from 1.8TBSATA II

    My system = win 7 64 bit.
I have system and core programs on SSD 128GB drive c:
Big mistake, so many programs and applications will only install on drive C.
This is a problem I have with many installers.
I specify another drive for installing the program and half of it ends up on the SSD drive regardless.
Logitech 920 webcam latest version is a good example.

Anyway, it is a constant nuisance trying to keep the 128GB drive clean. Constantly it is out of memory and I end up spending hours trying to clean it off. Sadly, the SSD will fill to the point of zero memory. This means I cannot delete the program that caused the memory problem, because it needs a token amount of memory to uninstall. I end up deleting from the folders, etc., leaving a mess behind.

I bought a new SATA II drive 1.8 TB and I plan to install it as the system C partition on the drive and possibly a D partition for data storeage.

I could use some help or links to help. I would like to leave everything intact from the SSD drive and just relocate it to this new drive. I was hoping not to have to reinstall everything new. I am not sure that a clone of the SSD drive will work properly.

Anyway, I am open to any suggesions, pointers and links to information. In the meanwhile, I will keep searching on my own as well. I always appreciate this forums, it has saved me so much time and grief over the past couple of years.

Well the more I have searched the more I realize I don't have things configured to work as they should. The SSD made a huge difference in boot performance and in programs that are located on the SSD. I should be looking for ways to config my system to prevent applications from installing in the SSD.

I'm working on that now, but the results I've found are not very conclusive from what I've read.

I'm making this reply, first because I cannot delete the posting, and second because the best practice will probably be for me keep the SSD as boot drive and find some workarounds for preventing applications from installing in the SSD. There are many applications that don't allow custom installs or the installers aren't working as they should. I've got to find a way to move those installed programs onto the larger HDD after they install themselves on the SSD. I know this can be done. Maybe, someone can give me a link or something along those lines.

I would move (uninstall and then reinstall) your lesser used programs to the HD, along with your User Folders - Change Default Location.

Then you can install your most used programs and those that insist, with some breathing room.

Other adjustments you can make are to try limiting your paging file to 2gb Change Virtual Memory Paging File.

Others turn off their Hibernate to delete that large file, but I would buy a bigger SSD before doing that since its such a great feature.

Try the lesser used programs and User folders and let us know how that sorts it.
