So you are unable to get any type of Icons? If so i had the same problem but i had to fix it by re-installing windows, I would say maybe call Microsoft i know you came here for help but they will be able to help you more with this type of problem if they can't i would say re-install i hope everything works out for you John.
I am unable to find the US number for Microsoft Support i am sorry, If you can't either try there forums or hopefully an other member here can help you. Tip make the title better like System32 Temprofile problem its better than "problems, problems"

    Try this for starters:

    1. Click Start
    2. In the search box, type cmd
    3. In the list that appears, right-click on cmd.exe and choose Run as administrator
    4. In the command window that opens, type sfc /scannow and hit enter.

Report the output from the command window once it finishes.

ran scan, this is the results;windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations.
    rebooted, problem remains.

I would give this a try. Restore to a point in time this problem wasn't there.

    System Restore

Could you explain in more detail what kind of problem you are having with I.E.10?

sorry, was so happy to get my computer back, I forgot.
I found a repair disc that I forgot I made, ran it and viola got my computer up and running.
I still don't know what caused all this mess.
I did all of the suggestions, but nothing worked.
trust me, i'll keep a firm grip on disc.
    thanks all,
    john
