    Did you 'customize' the icon?

That's a shell folder. Files ready to write to disc. You can ignore it - or set Windows not to show hidden files. It will not burn to disc.

It is annoying, but it is not the default, which I guess you must have altered?.
Open Windows Explorer. - Tools -Folder options - view. and scroll down and select "Do not show hidden files and folders." It serves no useful purpose to have these revealed, as they are not "user" files.

Just to add that there are two different types of hidden files - there are the files with the hidden attribute set and there are system files, which by default also have the hidden attribute set in addition to the system attribute

it is possible to show the manually hidden files using the folders dialog using the Hidden files & folders options

The system files are controlled with the Hide protected operating system files entry.

This will allow you to display the files hidden by the user whilst hiding the system files, such as Desktop.ini, which adds a layer of protection against accidental deletion

    Hi Antman
You need to enable HIDE OPERATING SYSTEM files. It's OK to show hidden files if you want but this icon is an Operating system file and will disappear if you click on HIDE OPERATING SYSTEM FILES in the folder options (control panel).

(What the file actually does I haven't a clue BTW).

The desktop.ini file is just a container for the folder customisations - deleting this from a normal folder will not have any really serious ramifications.

For a shell folder however this can be more important as the customisations include the shell folders special properties

I know about the Folder View options. I also know the function of the Desktop.ini file. I did not ask a question.
