Windows 7: Will I have to reload when Win7 is released?

19 Oct 2009   #11

Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1

The question is...why would you want to? The RC is nothing more than a late build beta. You should want to do a fresh install, so you are guaranteed to be using all RTM code.

As for reinstalling, I'm always a bit surprised when people complain about this. It really doesn't take that long. Get a USB flash drive, and download your latest drivers for your hardware. Copy them to the USB flash drive with your basic apps, such as AV software, CCleaner, etc. Once Windows 7 is done installing, pop in the flash drive, reinstall your drivers, and basic apps, and then you are all set to start in on larger apps, like Office, and games. This could easily be done all on a Saturday afternoon.

Not sure if it will work with the upgrade only version of Windows 7, but it works perfectly with the full install of Win 7 RTM.
Hmm, I can't see why this wouldn't work. I did this and upgraded from RC to RTM without any issues.

I can't use any Win7 CD to reload the OS?
Hi all. Long story cousin's hard drive failed. Installed a new hard drive & wrote down the Win7 product key that appears on the sticker (the sticker is worn, but I'm confident I have the right key). Since I don't have her Win7 CD, I used mine. Win7 is not accepting her product...

I'm trying to use Win7 more than XP cause I love it so much more. But, when it hits the shelves, are all copies discontinued? What will happen to my files, and will I have a chance to move back to XP?
