Odd window resizing behavior

Sorry, couldn't think of a better title. Anyway, this isn't too important to me, but I would be interested as to why this happens. I have a monitor with a resolution of 1280x1024 (can't go bigger) and when I first boot my computer, I can make a program's usable space (inside the borders) be 1280x720 HD. At some point in the day, maybe after screensaver, the program randomly shrinks it's with by 4px and I can no longer make it 1280px wide. If I switch users and come back, the program has shrank it's width enough to fit the entire border on the screen, and again, I can't stretch it all the way back. Any idea why this happens. I'm mainly just curious, but a solution would be great too!

If you maximize the window (button to the left of the red X you use to close the window) it should remain locked at max size (screen resolution less the task bar).

Do other programs show the same behavior? Otherwise it may be some program setting you need to adjust.
For example I set my movie playing program (VLC player) to automatically resize the window to the size of the movie being played, so I don't need to adjust stuff manually (and it does not change size without a specific reason).

I don't know, never tried it with others, but probably. The program is Minecraft and I want to play it at 1280x720 on a 1280x1024 monitor. Maximizing it would give me almost 4:3, not 16:9

EDIT: Another detail to mention is that the program resizes itself automatically to 1280x720 on startup. If the 4px thing happens, it can't do that on startup and gives me the ~1276x720 resolution instead. The only fix is restarting.

Try with other programs too. If they don't show this behaviour then it's a Minecraft-specific issue, and you need to post in their forums or file a bug report.

It seems to behave the same way with other programs.
Tested with a folder and firefox.

No more real-time window resizing & moving?
I noticed recently that when I try to resize or move a window, it shows a black border of what I'm resizing the window or where I'm moving the window to, instead of being able to see the window as it's moving/resizing (picture shows resizing): http://i53.tinypic.com/netd8z.jpg I find it...

YIM 10 Window resizing on its own
Lately when I close a chat window in Y! Messenger (a window that is either maximized or manually stretched to fit the size of my computer screen) and either open a new one or a contact IMs me, the window will go from the size I made it to a 2 inch by 2 inch (roughly) square in the top left corner...

Disabling automatic window resizing
This is probably a simple thing to do, but maybe I missed it. I have two monitors, each with a large screen. I often move a window from one to the other. If I place it near the top of the screen, Windows happily expands it to fill the whole screen, something I'd rather not have happen. How...

Resizing Window Size

WMP 12 - resizing window size
every time i start to play a video, WMP starts in a small 3x5ish window... I rre-size and make it bigger, close WMP, and start the video again, and it never ever remembers the previous size... for some of the higher resolution videos (HD and Blueray) WMP opens a bigger sized window, but no matter...
