It's weird... my Win7 system does not do this.. but my wife's system notification icons for Win7 disappear on a regular basis. Ran virus scan... found nothing.

Try the following link from SevenForums:

If you read the thread, you'll know I tried this as well as other possible fix here already.

occasionally my volume icon dissapears and now and then there is a space where my roboform icon usually is.
after trying a few trouble shoots i found the quickest and easiest workaround was to restart explorer.
as a result i have restart explorer in the desktop right click context menu.

maybe try restarting explorer to see if the icons show back , heres the restart context menu tutorial in case you want it.

Explorer - Add "Restart Explorer" to Desktop Context Menu

I talked about that, read my earlier post. Boobah yes restarting explorer does fix but I wouldn't call this a good fix as it makes trouble with other icons/apps..

    Unko,
Sorry to hear that you're having so many problems with your system icons.

Thanks for your reply.... if that was your reply to my post....

I checked the thread before I posted, and rechecked today.... The link I provided was not suggested to you before.

There are a couple of similar links provided by VistaKing on pg. 3:
... They may or may not work... dunno as I never tried them. They mess with your registry keys. Those aren't the same as the one above suggested by me (and works for me)...

Just in case you missed it for some reason, for convenience, the solution document link is reposted here. It is by the same SevenForums author who wrote the documents from the other two links. He deletes some cache file or other, as described in the following link/document:

Those damn windows update! Downloading 123mb and ending up with 1gb less after reboot and caches cleaned?!

Anyways i'll let you know what happens, for now, after ~3 reboots, the icons are still all here and in order, apparently.
