Alternatives to Clean Reinstall of WIN 7 64

I uninstalled IE 10 and IE9 and tried to uninstall SP1 from Windows 7 to do a repair installation, because sfc / scannowcould not repair "some files". So I am backing up my data now, in order to format and reinstall Windows7 (64).

I have the Windows 7 disk which was purchased as an upgrade disk. But I havebeen informed by Staples the the original Vista installation is not required to format and reinstall W7 64.

Any last minute ideas of how to save Windows SP1? I could not upgrade back to IE9 (several attempts with repairs of Windows Update usimg MS 'Fixit". Kept getting error 3715 each timeI tried to re-install IE9.

No problems with disk check.

Yes.... I, and probably everybody who lost a Windows system, is wish'n for a "intelligent recovery" option...

Sadly...we are not in the future movie Science Fiction future yet.

All we have is "repair installation" at this point, with an installation CD... Ya, I know it sucks... sorry dude.

That rig ships with Vista. How is it upgraded to Win7 Ultimate, and how is Ultimate activated?

If you have an in-place Upgrade there is no question you should do a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. We don't fear those here as we have helped tens of thousands of users get the best installs of WIn7 in the world - many experiencing Win7's native perfect performance for the first time since a factory OEM install is by definition the worst install, and upgrading over that is a double-whammy worst.

If you have a Clean Install that you want to try repairing first then use the installer with SP1 for your version provided in the Repair Install tutorial.
