problem formatting 650GB drive

I have a Toshiba Satellite L775D which had a 650GB Windows 7 hard drive. The windows logo would
appear at start-up but wouldn't go any farther.
I thought the problem could be a Corrupted windows. I tried a Win 7 repair but that wouldn't work, next I tried a fresh Win 7 install but that wouldn't work either. I finally put in a different hard drive and installed Win 7 and everything works fine.
I now believe the problem was the recovery partition on the original drive.
I tried several programs to delete the drive (DBAN, EaseUS Partition Master) but none worked.

I finally tried a Gparted cd and here is my problem. Gparted deleted the drive but now wants to format the drive to finalize it. It gives me a bunch of partition table choices. Anyone know which format, if any will work?
1.msdos
2.aix
3.amiga
4.bsd
5.dvh
6.ght7
7.mac
8.pc98
9.sun
10.loop

Why not just let your W7 install disc do the format?

I tried that first, it wouldn't work.
If I stop the Gparted cd then it won't continue with the format and I'll be back where I was.

Try Cleaning the HD Drive, using the CLEAN command (no need to use CLEAN ALL) in Step One in this tutorial:

I thought you said the Gparted CD deleted every thing on the drive.

Take a look at the drive with the bootable Partition Wizard. You can delete any partitions and format the drive.

Partition Wizard Bootable CD allows user to manage partition directly with partition manager bootable CD.

Gparted gets ready to delete the partitions and wants to know which partition table to use, there is no other choice but the choices 1-10.
I'll try the partition wizard.

I have moved the drive to a Dell laptop.

THe easiest method is to boot the Win7 installer, press Shift + F10 at first screen or enter System Recovery Options to open a Command line, then run Disk - Clean and Clean All with Diskpart Command - use the Clean Command.

Close COmmand Box, click Install Now and at drive selection screen create and format your partitions using the Drive Options or just click Next to have the installer create one for you and begin Clean Install Windows 7

The hard drive has started making clicking noises so I can't go any farther with it.

Thanks for all the help
