    Finding a CLSID

    I'm attempting to find the clsid for a couple of programs,folders and libraries. I know that they can be found inside the registry but do not know how. Does anyone know how to find this id inside the registry, or better yet a simpler way to find them?

    Search for the program, folder or library name in regedit. You will probably find several occurrences but one of them should tell you the CLSID.

    Im a little lost. Never really used regedit other than this. I hit ctrl F to find something and nothing comes up. For instance, I'm trying to find the clsid for my "Videos Library", when I search in the registry nothing comes up.

    Just search for videos, music or pictures. They are all under:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderDescriptions

    Videos: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderDescriptions\{18989B1D-99B5-455B-841C-AB7C74E4DDFC}
    Music: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderDescriptions\{2112AB0A-C86A-4ffe-A368-0DE96E47012E}
    Pictures: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderDescriptions\{33E28130-4E1E-4676-835A-98395C3BC3BB}

    Well thank you Ztruker, those do seem to be the correct clsid's.

    I was trying to mess around with rainmeter and customize some things (hopefully you know what rainmeter is, or else I just sound dumb). For some reason clsid's linking to Recycle Bin and My Computer work, but these do not for some reason. I'll have to find some Rainmeter specific forum to ask around at.

    Anyways, thank you again for your help!

    Never heard of Rainmeter. Googled it and it's a D4esktop customization program. There is a link to their forum on their main web site: Rainmeter, desktop customization tool

    Rainmeter lets you build your own gadgets and monitors.
    You can also download themes built by other people.

    Here are my monitors (based on the Krell meters from "Forbidden Planet").

    Pretty cool man! I like the simplicity of them, some of the themes are too showy for my taste

    Thanks.

    The skin directory is only ~404 KB.
