Windows 7: Applications&games not opening, error (0x00007b), other problems too

Hi Tom,

I've been trying to get the CBS logs all last night but it kept saying Access Denied.

I've tried taking ownership too, but I'm not sure if I'm doing it right.

I was having problems trying to get things to my desktop but I finally got the Take Ownership there.

I went back into my CBS logs and tried to Merge it, and there was no merge option. Therefore I followed this step: If you do not see a Merge option when you right click on the REG file, then you will need to check in Default Programs to set the reg file extension to have it's Current Default program set as Registry Editor (C:\Windows\regedit.exe). Afterwards, try merging the REG file again.

Am I doing that right?

Okay, everything is messed up again.

How do I send the CBS log if it's still saying access denied?

I've tried taking ownership also, but I'm having trouble with this part:
Default Programs to set the reg file extension to have it's Current Default program set as Registry Editor (C:\Windows\regedit.exe). Afterwards, try merging the REG file again.

Which option should I use?

I used option 2, but when it says to change program, what am I changing it to?

You don't need to change it to anything . Right click on CBS.log Send to then choose compressed ( zipped ) folder you will then have a folder called CBS with a zipper on it . Upload this folder .

The permissions only applies to files within the CBS folder and as an administrator, you have full read access to those files so you've done something wrong if you have access denied errors

Export CBS folder
  1. Click the Start button then click Computer.
  2. Double-click on the C: drive, under the Hard Disk Drives category, and then scroll down to, and double click on the Windows folder.
  3. Find and double click on the Logs folder.
  4. Right-click on the CBS folder, and select Copy.
  5. Go back to your Desktop, right-click on it, and select Paste. You should now see a copy of the CBS folder appear on your Desktop called CBS.
  6. Right-click on this new folder, and navigate through Send to, and select Compressed (zipped) folder.
  7. A new file, also called CBS (CBS.zip), but this time with a different icon, will be created.

Attach CBS.zip to your next post please.
