I need to save hard drive activity log.

    Hello

I can't find a hard drive monitor that displays all files, speed, read, write, etc like Resource Monitor does.

But Resource Monitor cannot save a log of the displayed data, it is a very option-less program indeed, usual of microsoft, I need to save the file so I have time to see it, but there is too much for me to screenshot it everything fast enough.

Otherwise I will make a C# app since I think the diagnostic module should also have the perfmon stuff as I
    did previously for memory stuff.

In this case it is not important how accurate the speeds/total bytes are because I just want to pinpoint the location and ID of certain files to see what another program is loading.

The Disk activity in Resource Monitor is also not perfect, some stuff shows up after the moving was made, other stuff keeps going when it's already done, sometimes, and also, how speeds and written/read bytes are displayed is total bullcrap since I can't make anything out of it, and it's basically totall inaccurate anyways, i'm moving gigabytes and it shows 2XX.XXX bytes, thanfully i don't care about this now but I surely may be welcome in another case. The refresh rate is slow, typical of microsoft, the stuff that is not being used by the system doesn't get greyed out, it's okay they keep it on list for a minute but it should be greyed out immediately when it's not being written/read or accessed, so you can see clearly which ones are active.

Is there such a program in WDK or DDK, i have the latest WIN7 edition downloaded already.

I will make a program my self If I can't find it, no doubt about that, I will not be dependant on the web.

Thanks a lot, I need this ASAP!

I am familiar with event audit and tracing, but that goes through gpedit, on the other hand I remember Perfmon having data collection stuff and I haven't really looked deep into it except some memory stuff. This is what I'll explore in the meantime.

UPD: Now scrolling through Event Trace Providers ... hmm

    Did you try Performance Monitor?
    perfmon.exe or perfmon.msc

Okay I think I found it, Process Monitor from sysinternals.

Has exactly what I need, specific-process, logging, great!
