Programs crash on opening or saving to Desktop

For example: If I create an Excel file and try to save it to my desktop, when I click "File" then "Save As" and then click on my desktop icon, Excel freezes and crashes, same with Microsoft Word. If I open a program such as MS Word or Adobe Acrobat, and navigate to my desktop to open a file, the programs freeze and then crash when I click on the desktop icon.

I can save files to other locations on my PC such as "My Documents" or some other file I create, and I can open files from locations other than my desktop. The crashes only seem to be related to the Desktop. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Hi woniell, Welcome to Seven forums

Try this. Open the Network and Sharing Center. On the left side click on Change advanced sharing settings. Click on Home or Work and then select Turn off network discovery*. Save it and close.

Thanks you for the suggestion. Unfortunately, it did not work. I tired it with Word, and had the same result - Word crashed when I tried to save document to the Desktop.

I di have more information after playign around with this issue. I can save to the desktop if I go to C:\user\username\desktop. However, if I open "save as" in any program and click on the "shortcut" to the desktop in the navigation pane under "Favorites", then it crashes the program. Maybe this info will help find a solution.
