Happens all the time, you do it too.

If you feel the need for recognition then, yes you posted it first.

You didn't point out which one though...

Guys, guys. No need to fight over me.

This is not a competition. When we confirm another member's advice it is to agree and signals a likely fix. In this case I needed to know the exact association so Derek added important info. This is collegiality, required of us to remain the top tech forums on the web.

Advice in your first post Vista to Rebuild Cache caused me to google it taking me straight away to Shawn's tutorial which I've now added to my bookmarks.

Thanks all for your help. I'll report back as soon as I try these in the sequence suggested by Derek.

I am not arguing just saying what is the point of posting what was already said .

I do it too ? Yeah when someone posts at the same time as me . But then I delete my post .

Let it go, it happens all the time.

If three or five people post the same thing it just confirms a good place to start.

Start acting like a team player instead of self imposed royalty, it's an open forum.

It is not the same thing, Derek. Its only your generosity to address the two posts as the same. There is hell and heaven difference.

The article Default File Type Associations - Restore contains pretty much more than 100 registry entries. supplying the link to that article and pinpointing to the particular registry entry that is needed among those more than 100 (you suggested to use the registry entry for .lnk only) cannot be the same thing.

Well done.
(in this case, I suggest for not only .lnk, but also the .exe)

Restoring .lnk as default association solved the problem. Icons reverted correctly.

Thanks to all.

Size of certain icons changed when installing visual style
Hi, I was changing visual styles the other day, and one visual style resized these icons as can be seen in the image below (the ones identified by the pink lines). Changing visual styles again did not change them back to their normal size, and I wasn't able to find anything in the Advanced...

Navigation Icons style on Nightly changed.
I have been using Nightly since V8.0. All of a sudden my "Navigation Toolbar Icons" style changed on "Nightly V14.0a1". They used to look exactly as the ones displayed in Firefox V11.0. This occurred before a nightly update. Compared the about:config's between Firefox and Nightly, reverted to an...

Link style icons only on desktop?
I would like to know if I can apply the folder option for single clicking to open only to the desktop. I would like to leave other folders the traditional way. I realize the most likely answer is no, its either one way or the other, but I would appreciate a definitive answer. Thanks in advance.

Desktop Icons Changed!?
Hello, Restarted and Windows 7 desktop icons are now partially obscured by what looks to be some kind of 'preview' page, or something (small page-like display at lower left corner of icon with a dog-ear on the top right). What happened and how do I get rid of these...it's annoying the %$#@*...

Desktop Icons changed to Default
I just booted my computer and it seems that IE8 icon and the MS Security Essentials icon went to a default icon. Have no idea why. Scanned for virus and malware. All clean. I had to select another icon other than the original then back to the original to get them back to normal. I know about F5...

desktop icons suddenly changed colors
I seem to have done something that screwed up my Win 7 RC slightly, but I have no idea what it was. All of a sudden, the icons on the desktop (more precisely, icons for links, not actual files) change their colors at the last stage of the boot up. What I mean is that after I type in my password the...
