Windows 7: Stop a program appearing in shortcuts in start menu

Hi lads,

Just wonderin if there's anything i can do to stop a certain program appearing in the shortcut menu when you click on start.

All help would be appreciated .

do you want to delete a shortcut in your start-menu?

right-click and delete

or do you mean the most commonly used progs on the left-hand side?

right-click and 'remove from this list'

learn to use right-click - it's very useful in a lot of places...

The old way does not work. No current reference to a new way.

Locate the following registry key:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\ where ‘program’ is the name of the executable you do not want to appear on the list.

Click Edit, point to New, and select String Value.

Type NoStartPage for the value name.

Thanks for the reply, but i appreciate it if people dont take me as an idiot. I dont think im that stupid, i know how to remove it temporarily, but im talking about doing it permanently.

it's ok DeWire, i didn't mean to treat you like an idiot - i just don't know how much you do know, but now i do know that you do know something.

You could use a sledgehammer and set the "Show Recent" value to 0, killing them all.
