Windows balks on initial desktop startup
Recently I just started getting back into GTA IV. I installed the game on my mechanical drive and it was humming along. This is all assuming that I can actually get the game running. Sometimes it hangs up on the copyright verification. I think the disc is on its last leg aswell...
So I installed it and was playing it last night. It all ran smoothly and I was pretty happy with where this was going. I decided to boot the computer up this morning and I discovered that the computer was frozen and that my logitech G500 mouse was not lit up. But my keyobard was. So I started monkeying with different USB slots. It didn't seem to fix it right away but eventually the mouse would turn on. I played a bit of GTA IV and browsed the web. It ran perfectly after that.
This evening I turned the computer on again and it did the same thing. I played a few hours of GTA IV and it ran perfectly. I then watched TV on Windows Media Center and then returned to play GTA IV. During this gameplay I installed Fraps (which was not running) and EVGA precision (which was running) . The computer did something that I have noticed before. It seems to return to 2d clocks and get stuck there. It's happened before and I know a restart usually cures the problem however it blue screened before I can restart it. This is where I notice something is wrong. I restarted the machine and I noticed the machine is hanging on bios. It comes up with the black screen and all the pretty graphics along the side but it took a while for it to detect my 2 hard drives and 1 dvd drive. Then when it started booting it blue screened if I remember correctly. So I was able to get it to boot into windows and decided to do a LinX test. Just to see what would happen. I monitored temps and I sat down and started typing this. It blue screened again and I watched it boot. The first bios did the same thing. It hung at the detection of all my hardware. Then the second post screen did the same thing again. Hanging when looking for my hardware. It then boots into windows and my mouse is currently not on.
So what are your thoughts? I understand this is a tedious post but I didn't want to leave out any details.
Thanks for your thoughts
EDIT: so I decided to do a re-start and now when it is booting it goes from the windows screen right to a black screen and my monitor turns off. I am almost wondering if my SSD is starting to go.
EDIT 2: After a few minutes of it sitting there the welcome screen appears.
