Which version do I have ?

After reading thru a few threads, I am trying to figure out which vista disk I bought. I can't remember how much I paid for it, but it did come in a plastic fold out case and I have changed machines but I am using the Windows 7 rc now. I don't see on the disk any way to tell if it's oem or retail, is there a way to tell ? thanks

Vista disks have all versions on them (from knowledge, could be wrong), the only way i know, is when you go to install it on a computer, your serial code will identify what version you have, and install the version the serial is linked with.

If it's in the full retail packaging, the one you need instructions to oper, then it is most likely the retail rather than the OEM, which would normally be provided in much simpler packaging.

Oh and the key for OEM disks will sometime have "OEM" as part of the key sequence

I Know I have the home premium version, but how do you know if it's retail or oem disk ?

Ok, thanks Uber Philf and Barman58. I was getting a little worried after reading the threads discussing oem and retail versions and I have changed machines. But from what you say Barman58, I have the retail version. - Thanks

Hopefully you do, of course I have seen OEM keys (on the pc mounted stickers) that do not always follow this convention.

One other way that has just occurred to me is there should be an EULA text file on the disk (something in the form of en_licence.txt ), if you can find this and check the wording it should clearly state what licence you have

RETAIL DISK

OEM, Note "For distribution with a new PC " and "Licensed only for distribution with a new pc". Always states this if oem

Well I was worried because I probaby would have bought the cheaper version when I built my pc way back when and now I have changed the m.b. and processor, but the home premium package came in a plastic fold out case and has a little 41 page instruction book with it (plus I remember it was'nt cheap). Thanks guys
