Stuck at Welcome screen. Tried repair- no go

I'm trying to help a co-worker get her laptop started, and after entering the password, it just hangs at the "Welcome" screen. Tried inserting my Windows 7 disc and going through the repair process, but no luck. Still hangs.. Short of re-installing windows, is there anything else I can try?

Thanks..

Yes Red it would be handy to know and what I am curious about is how does your disk work in her machine - I would have thought that that would have been the IT person's for the company job?

Can't enter safe mode. Still hangs at the welcome screen.

It's her personal laptop. Plus it's a small company with no IT dept..

Yes, I booted to a Windows 7 disc, and chose that option.

So I am guessing the OS is a company owned one? and her laptop is supplied by the company?

I think the OP has stated that it is this lady's personal computer. That being so perhaps running Windows Offline Defender might be the place to start!
But before anything else may I suggest downloading Ubuntu, burning to disc and running Ubuntu from the disc to gain access to the hard drive. Then back up all data before doing anything else. Just in case!

Yes Mitch but the OP said he is using his disk so the two computers must be running the same licence?? That's the only reason I asked if the personal machine was owned by the company.

Well I have two Win 7 machines and have in the past got the Discs mixed up. I'm sure I could boot up with the "wrong" disc but I will try that later today as i am getting old so i could well be wrong!

EDIT: Have just tried it and it does work. I can use the "wrong" disc!
