Windows 7: User Profile Service failed on logon

User Profile Service failed on logon

I am running a Dell Studio XPS 1645 with Windows 7, 64-bit, Home Version OS.

After reinstalling Windows some months ago, I only added back 2 User accounts… 1)Me and 2) Game. Me had Administrator rights, and Game did not. I did not make/have a separate Administrator account.

I booted up my laptop yesterday and tried logging in as Me, and received the error msg: “The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded”.

Neither my Me password nor my Administrator password is being recognized.

I am using my Game account to log in and run apps that do not require Admin access, and that is working well.

I’ve been searching the Internet and Forums for a way to fix the problem without reinstalling Windows.

My thinking is that since I back up my Registry and do regular backups of files etc, I should be able to somehow put back my Me account with Administrator access.

Is this possible, or am I shooting into the air?

Would a System Restore fix the problem?

TIA

Hi jato,

You should follow the tutorial shared by Shawn to boot through admin account and then change the backup profile to the current one.

This should work well and resolve this issue as I have seen it working for alot of our users.

Thanks again MOD for such a detailed tutorial. If you have any further queries, please feel free to contact us.

Today I've finally got some time to look at the links to fixing this problem. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but all the instructions indicate that I need to be able to use my Admin password, which as I've stated is not being recognized.

I can't do anything, even like a System Restore without that password.

Also, many of the instructions are for Windows 7 Premium or higher.....I have Home edition.

Suggestions...do I need to re-read what I read?

TIA

Jato,

One option was using the built in "Administrator" account, but you could do the tutorial while logged in to any administrator account that you do not have this error with.

The tutorial works in all editions of Windows 7, so that part doesn't matter. As for the other instructions, there are other options for each that will work in all editions. Which specific instruction are you referring to?

I do not have access to any "Admin" account at this time. The only account that I can log in with is a standard account with no "Admin" access.

Are you able to do step 2 in the "In Preparation" section to enable the built-in "Administrator" account in Safe Mode, then continue with the tutorial?
User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded.
.... or from at boot, then continue in the tutorial above?
