Can't see folders

When I try to save a PDF file that I generated from a webpage (while viewing the file in Adobe Reader), the Save As box appears with the icons for Recent Places, Desktop, Libraries, etc. along a column on left side (as usual). However, when I click on any of them to try to get to My Documents and other subfolders, they do not come up - nothing happens. I have no problems saving excel and word files and finding various subfolders while using those programs. I also have no problems Exploring various subfolders. I've never had this problem before - performed this many times over the years. Related: today I tried to attach a photo from My Pictures folder. Although I can view the pictures while Exploring, I see no pics when trying to attach. All this happens regardless of whether I'm trying to view files via Details, Folders, Tiles, Thumbnails, etc. Thoughts?

Let me get it clear in my mind. This problem just appeared, or it has always been a problem on this machine?

If it just appeared, then if you have a Restore Point from just previous to the appearance of the issue, I'd use that to restore. If it's always been a problem on this machine with that program, I'd try their forum. Somebody else likely has the same problem with the same make of machine on Adobe forum(assuming they have some forums.)

This is a wide spread issue that has been occurring in various web email accounts,
Usually this would point to some type of malware setting either the Library or folders inside the library as hidden in the attributes,
You can use these free tools to see if they find anything,
Manually Update them before running full scans,
Try not to use your computer while the scans are running, (one at a time of course).

http://www.superantispyware.com/?tag=SUPERANTISPYWARE
This one is the longest up to 4 hours, the others are only about 45 minutes,

There have been many posted workarounds as Showing Hidden folders, files and drives in folder options,
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/56005-file-folder-hide-unhide.html
Also you could just Rename the effected folder and test/ add anything in front of the folders name.

P.S.
Please add what Security suite you have installed and any prior security you've uninstalled,
Also please use this tutorial to fill in your system spec's,

Thanks to both of you that replied on this matter. It was a one-time thing last week - appears to have resolved itself over the long weekend.

It probably just needed a day off.

Favorites: how to move sub-folders mixed with primary folders
I have somehow made a disastrous mess of my favorites. I looked online for answers to this problem, and all I can find for a solution is cut and paste. This makes no sense to me for this particular issue because there's no way to "un-indent" a sub-folder and move it back in line with the primary...

Trouble moving system folders to 2nd drive... corruption of folders
Hi folks, this is my first time posting here. This looks like the right place for a post like this. I'm pretty knowledgeable. I've been building my own PCs for 20+ years. I've been out of practice for a while, but I did a ton of research when I decided to build two PCs recently. Even back in...

Consolidate Shortcut Folders/File Folders in Open Dialogue
I was wondering if there's a way to sort file folders and shortcut folders so they are listed together, as in previous OS versions. I find it frustrating that 7 has forced the shortcuts to be split up into their own category rather than their file properties. I prefer to sort my folders by type,...

How to mount folders on external drive to user folders.
Hi, I have installed Windows 7 because I need it for my Degree course and my son's iPod touch. I have only given it 30 gigs of space. I realize I'm going to need more. I have an external drive that I have formatted ntfs. I have seen a tutorial here ...

WLM 2011- Moving Folders Within Local Folders
Have many (300+) email folders as sub-folders within Local Folders. When I want to save an email, I 'drag/drop(paste)' the email in the appropriate folder (is faster than choosing the 'move to folder' procedure). However, when hurrying (and not paying attention), I sometimes inadvertently move an...
