Windows 7 explorer keeps crashing/hanging up.not sure why..

i noticed the windows explorer kept disappearing ..not sure why also notice that a few programs could be opened by just clicking on them ( i had the computer set up to ask to open all programs,files.etc..)i tired a window repair but it made it worse now i couldnt kept explorer on at all..so i decide to do the repiar install ..but it stops and tells me to restart and do the updates for windows but i dont have any as far as i can tell i am current with all updates ..so i m not sure what to do my first attempt told me to update my wireless adapet which i did and then it was lost i finally found the original driver and have it back ..but tried again and it still does the same thing it loads the windows programs then stops at the gathering files level in the loading screen and tells me torestart and do updates..so what am i doing wrong? running win7 ult on emachines..thankx for any info/help.
