Win7 for Students not full - It is an Upgrade - Proof

Preface: I purchased my software through the Windows 7 Student $29 program

So I just finished doing my Win 7 install on a clean HDD. When I entered in my serial at first it said it was not a valid serial. So i opted not to enter a serial at that time.

Now I am in Windows and I tried entering my serial again and activating windows - and I receive:

The following failure occurred while trying to use the product key:

    Code: 0xC004F061

    Description:
The Software Licensing Service determined that this specified product key can only be used for upgrading, not for clean installations.

I bought the Student discounted Pro 64bit version planning on doing an install on a clean HD. I even have a brand new hard drive sitting next to me to install to.

I am currently running a 32bit Vista Home Premium, so as far as I know I can't even "upgrade" or do a clean install.

    Hopefully you can solve it.

I've read lots of conflicting information that says the student version was the full version. Either the people at the company didn't know what they were talking about, or you're getting ripped off.

    From the UK site

You can also choose to buy Windows 7 Professional Upgrade for £30, however this may require you to perform a clean install. Please refer to the FAQ's. for more details.

so I presume pro users can do a clean install?
