First - is it the switch slider itself?

Take a nail file or similar - with a narrow, blunt tip

Slip the narrow part under the right hand side of the slider and gently pull the slider OUT

it is a friction (tight-ish) fit - you are not going to break anything

Look at the part that you removed... it SHOULD look sort of like this __I_I__

I'll bet it looks like THIS __\_I__

Those two 'prongs' SHOULD fit either side of the ACTUAL switch and move it right, when you switch on.

Because the left prong is bent backward... it is NOT pushing the Power switch ON

They were available on eBay here

I got the opposite colour to my computer case, so it is obvious where the switch is...

O.K. It was a good place to start...

Using a cocktail stick, does sliding the actual switch to the right start the netbook??

With Power OFF; Battery OUT - I have ONE lights showing... Battery shows Green (it must THINK it is charged)

With Power ON; Battery OUT i have TWO lights showing...

From the Right... Power shows Blue, Battery shows Green - other light come on, as the netbook boots.

Sorry, but I agree with you, it looks as if either the actual Power Switch is broken, or the power circuit part of the Motherboard has failed.

Just checked for N150 Motherboard on eBay... approx 60 dollars... quite a bit cheaper than buying a new Netbook.

Other possibility - buy a second hand N150 and swap out the Hard Drive so you have still got your own files and stuff.

Third possibility... if you have a Desktop or another Laptop - buy an USB (2 1/2") external case and put the N150 HDD in that... so you have access to your files.

    Best of luck.
